Quilters at work!
The Stirling City Quilters, Ellen Cheda, Rona O'Neil, Jeanie Hankins, Caroline Geiger, Sherri Castro, Bonnie Grondahl, and Sue Bone, are quilting American Flag "rag quilts" for servicemen and servicewomen. Ellen Cheda, an experienced seamstress/quilter, is leading the project. The latest recipient, Cy Cribbs, is serving in Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom.
"It takes 4 yards each, of red, white, and blue flannel to make one American Flag rag quilt. It's about $85.00 a quilt just for the material," said Ellen Cheda. The quilters have remarked that seeing the recipients faces light up when they are presented with their quilts is nothing short of emotional and heartwarming.
We are in need of donations - funding and/or materials! Please send checks (made out to Stirling City Seniors, with a notation of "Flag quilts" in the bottom left corner of the check) to: Stirling City Seniors, P.O. Box 203, Stirling City, CA 95978.
